our story
Gnarwhal Skate School started in 2021, following skateboarding’s big moment at the Tokyo Olympics. With more families asking about lessons, Ricky saw an opportunity to share something he’d loved for years.
But the idea was always about more than teaching tricks.
We wanted to create somewhere people could feel welcome, build confidence and discover what makes skateboarding so special. Somewhere it didn’t matter if you were a complete beginner, struggled with traditional sports or simply wanted to try something different.
What started as a few skateboarding lessons has grown into a community of young skaters, families and friends, all supporting each other and celebrating every little victory.
Five years later, the mission hasn’t changed. No pressure. No judgement. Just skateboarding for everyone.

At Gnarwhal, we believe skateboarding is about so much more than learning tricks. It’s about confidence, creativity, resilience and finding somewhere you feel you belong.
We know everyone learns differently. Some skaters pick things up straight away, while others need a little more time, encouragement or a different approach. That’s why our coaching is flexible, patient and inclusive, with a particular focus on supporting children with additional needs.
We celebrate the little victories just as much as the big ones. Whether it’s standing on a board for the first time, overcoming a fear or finally landing that trick, every bit of progress matters.

where we skate
We don’t believe skateboarding should be limited to one location. That’s why Gnarwhal Skate School gets out and about, bringing the fun to skateparks, schools and community spaces across Medway, Gravesend and the wider Kent area.
Our Sunday Skate Club moves between different locations, keeping things fresh and giving skaters the chance to experience new parks. Once you’ve booked, we’ll let you know exactly where we’re meeting.
We also offer private lessons at individually arranged locations, alongside sessions for schools, youth groups and community events.
